A give-back project from Bakes & Brews
Bakes & Brews Community Shelf
Grown next door. Shared on our shelf.
Opening soon
The Bakes & Brews Community Shelf is a set of self-service racks in our café where neighbours share what they grow at home: veggies, herbs, greens and fruit. Other neighbours take it home. You can pay online, hold a packet and pay at our counter, or take a free one.
You don’t need an account to browse, hold or buy. Signing in is only for neighbours who want a profile or want to sell.
What the shelf is
A good tree gives more lemons than one family can use. The shelf gives that extra a place to go. Neighbours who grow bring packets to our café and put them on a rack. Neighbours who are looking find them there, or on the shelf app first.
-
Homegrown only, for now
Veggies, herbs, greens and fruit grown at home. Home-made food is coming later.
-
Checked by our staff
Sellers apply once and café staff approve them. Every post is reviewed by café staff before it can go on the shelf.
-
Three ways to take one
Pay online by card or wallet, hold one packet and pay at our counter, or take a free item. Some growers give their harvest away.
-
We handle the money
We collect every payment, online and at the counter, and pay sellers ourselves, by Zelle or cash.
How it works

- Pick your shelfSee what neighbours brought in. No account needed.

No bags or labels? Bring it loose. We’ll help you pack it at the counter.
How we use Google sign-in
Browsing the shelf, holding a packet and buying one need no account. Signing in with Google (or Facebook) is only for neighbours who want a profile or want to sell on the shelf.
What we receive from Google
Only your name, your email address and your profile photo. We ask Google for the basic sign-in scopes and nothing more:
openidemailprofile
What we use it for
- To create your Community Shelf account and sign you in.
- If you sell, to show your name (a first name is fine) and photo on your seller page. You can upload your own photo. If you don’t, we use your Google photo.
- To send the emails you ask for, like updates on your holds, your seller request and your posts.
What we never do
- We don’t access your contacts, Gmail, Drive, calendar or anything else in your Google account.
- We never post anything to your accounts.
- We never sell your data or use it for ads.
- We don’t use Google user data to train AI models, and we never use it to make AI-generated images or content.
Who can see it
Your email address and phone number are never shown publicly. Only the café staff who run the shelf can see them, for example when they review your seller request or a hold, so they can reach you.
Our use of information we receive from Google follows the Google API Services User Data Policy (opens in a new tab), including the Limited Use requirements.
Our privacy policy covers everything we collect and why. You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.
When it opens
Opening soon
The shelf app isn’t open yet. It opens with the café, at shelf.bakesandbrews.shop. Until then, this page is the place to learn about it. Want a note when the doors open?
